Photovoltaic Energy Systems Syllabus

 

Syllabus

 

The course is designed for senior electrical engineering students and its objective is to create a course which stimulates the interest of students in the design and application of solar energy technology. The course covers a brief review on renewable energy systems. I will focus on the current trends in photovoltaic (PV) energy engineering, solar cell material science, design and installation of solar panels and cost analysis of the overall system.

 

Course contents:

 

  1. A review on the global energy use, environmental and health effects.
  2. Different types of renewable energy sources.
  3. Sun parameters, the amount and composition of sunlight available at various locations during various time of the year.
  4. Solar energy conversion: Photovoltaic, photo electrochemical,  photo thermal and thermoelectric systems.
  5. PV system components.
  6. Cost analysis and environmental issues.
  7. Maximization of PV cell performance.
  8. Design of a wide variety of PV systems.
